Tips for Storing an Electric Bike Indoors!

If you'd like to store your e-bike indoors, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Battery Storage

If you have a lithium-ion battery, then you should store it at 40-80% charge and only recharge the battery when it gets to 20%.  If you have a nickel-cadmium battery, store it at 80% charge with an occasional full recharge every two months.  Be sure to keep your battery away from heat and moisture as well.

Lubrication Tips

Be sure to lube the chain and check for any other moving parts that might need lubrication.  There are several different types of lubricants on the market, so pick one that works best with your bike's drivetrain.

Store your Battery Separately!

If you're storing your electric bicycle inside, then you should remove and store the battery separate from the e-bike.  This will prevent the battery from draining completely and damaging itself.

Clean Your Electric Bicycle!

After dusting it off, be sure to wipe down your electric bike with a cloth.  This will prevent dirt and grime from sticking to the bike's surfaces.

Keep the Tires Inflated

Depending on your e-bike, you might want to keep it stored with its tires fully inflated.  This will make sure the tires are ready to go at a moment's notice.

Check for Loose Parts

Before storing, be sure to inspect all the different parts of your bike.  This will help prevent future headaches from loose screws, broken components, etc.

Tips for Storing an Electric Bike Outdoors!

If you'd like to store your e-bike outside, then there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

Rack Location

The location of the rack you use will depend on the weather in your area.  If you live in a humid environment, then it's best to lean against a building or wall that doesn't get direct sunlight.

If your area is hot and humid, then it's best to find the shady side of the building or lean against a wall.

If your area is very sunny but dry, then lean against a wall where the electric bike will be protected from rain and moisture.

Choose the Appropriate Rack

When choosing an outside storage rack, be sure to choose one that can either hang or stand your e-bike.    For the hanging option, the rack should be able to hold at least 50 lbs.  If your bike weighs more than that, then it's best to go with a standing rack.

Inspect & Adjust

Before storing your electric bike, be sure to inspect it and adjust the components as necessary. This will prevent any unnecessary repairs or fixes in the future.

Properly Cover Your Electric Bike

If you'd like, you can even purchase a special electric bike cover to protect your e-bike from the sun and moisture. Electric bike covers come in two main styles: fully enclosed and open.

A fully enclosed cover will completely protect your bike from the elements.

An open cover will still protect your bike but also let it "breathe."

Proper Weather Protection

Depending on your electric bike, you might need to protect your bike against rain and moisture.  Electric bikes with metal frames can tolerate all types of weather, while e-bikes with plastic frames require extra protection.
